We have a fantastic range of over 250 new cookery and food books  which are available to borrow at all North Somerset libraries, these new books have been funded by the project. Books are free to borrow with your library card. To have a look at the Cook2Learn books in your local library, drop in and look for the Cook2Learn round sticker logo in the cookery book section or ask a member of the library staff.

Our specially produced Cook2Learn cookery book is packed full of easy-to-follow recipes from the simple to the more ambitious. It also contains information and tips on money saving and eating healthily for the whole family, including simple swaps and ways to reduce salt, fat, and sugar.

Everyone attending Cook2Learn workshops from July 2017 will be given a copy of the cookbook to take away with them, and copies are also be available to borrow from all North Somerset libraries.

We have some great online magazines which are free to access and read on your computer, tablet or smartphone. 28 magazine titles are available to download including BBC Good Food, Olive, BBC Easy Cook, Kitchen Garden, Healthy Food, Men’s Health, Men’s Fitness, Women’s Health and Health & Fitness.

Current and back issues are free with your library card.

The Cook2Learn programme uses and recommends some excellent apps from Public Health England.

one-you-appThe Easy Meals app is a great way to eat foods that are healthier for you. You’ll find delicious, easy meal ideas to get you going if you’re ever short of inspiration.

Over 150 easy, calorie counted recipes across breakfast, lunch, evening meals and puddings.


smart-recipesThe Smart Recipes app contains over 100 calorie counted, searchable recipes, a great ‘smart recipes’ function which provides suggestions for a day’s meals, and a shopping list function whichmakes it easy to keep track of everything you need.

Most recipes serve four adults and cost around £5 to make.

The recipes are also available on the Change 4 Life website

Join your local library

It is free to join the library.

Joining LibrariesWest means you can borrow, return, reserve and renew books and other items from any library in Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, Dorset, North Somerset, the Borough of Poole, Somerset and South Gloucestershire. Customers can use their membership card in any one of the 150+ libraries and can access a joint catalogue of over 2.5 million items, which all customers can borrow from, including books, DVDs, spoken word, music CDs and computer games. Your library card also enables you to  use the library computers to access the internet and office programmes and free public Wi-Fi is available in all North Somerset libraries.

You will need to show identification linking your name and address, such as a driving licence, utility bill (less than three months old) or bank statement. People under 15 must have a signature from their parent or guardian.

Once you’ve joined, you can collect your card and use it straight away. If you join online you should take identification with you when you collect your new card.

If you lose a library book, contact a library to let them know as soon as possible. You will need to pay for a replacement.

We make a charge for items returned late. Please register your email address to receive notices and reminders from the library.


Health Trainer Service


Those attending Cook2Learn workshops in Weston have the opportunity to request further healthy eating support from our North Somerset Council Health Trainers who are part of the Cook2Learn delivery team in Weston.  The health trainers provide a free and confidential service, offering one-to-one support to help reach personal goals and improve your health and wellbeing. You can work with a health trainer for up to 12 weeks to help you hospital-pod-1eat healthier as well as other healthy lifestyle topics such as reducing alcohol consumption and exercising more.

To access this service you must be aged 18 years or over and living in Weston-super-Mare. Anyone not meeting the criteria will be referred to a relevant organisation that can help.
